Speed Performance

Atlas VPN reached 350 Mbps download and 280 Mbps upload on our 1 Gbps test line in London. Latency to the nearest server measured 25ms — solid for everyday use. We test each provider across four server locations at both peak (6–9 PM local) and off-peak (2–4 AM) hours and average the results.

Atlas VPN's WireGuard performance was adequate for standard browsing and HD streaming but lagged the top five providers by 30–40 percent. The SafeSwap servers (which rotate your public IP address automatically) added 15–20 ms of additional latency but maintained serviceable throughput at around 280 Mbps on the UK endpoint.

Streaming Performance

Atlas VPN's streaming performance is adequate for US content. Netflix US worked reliably in most sessions. Amazon Prime Video US passed without geo-block errors. BBC iPlayer and Disney+ on non-US servers were hit-or-miss during our testing period. The SafeSwap feature (rotating IPs) is not needed for streaming and can cause mid-session interruptions if left active.

Security

Atlas VPN uses WireGuard (ChaCha20-Poly1305) and IPSec/IKEv2 (AES-256-GCM). SafeSwap rotates the public IP address at regular intervals, making long-duration traffic correlation attacks harder. The kill switch and DNS leak protection both performed correctly in our tests. The absence of an independent third-party audit is the primary security limitation — users cannot externally verify the implementation claims.

Privacy & Logging Policy

Atlas VPN is incorporated in the United States and owned by Nord Security — the same parent as NordVPN. The United States is a founding 5-Eyes member and home to expansive surveillance programmes including those authorised under FISA and EO 12333. US-jurisdiction VPNs are subject to National Security Letters and gag orders that can compel disclosure without judicial oversight. No independent third-party audit has been published. The privacy policy claims no-logs, but without an audit, users must rely on the policy alone. The corporate relationship with Nord Security creates a degree of data-governance interdependency that is worth noting for users who treat VPN providers as separate trust entities.

Windows App Experience

The Atlas VPN Windows app is clean and modern with a layout similar to NordVPN's simpler screens. The main feature distinction is SafeSwap — toggleable from the server selection screen, it automatically rotates your public IP address at regular intervals. The app installed without issues on Windows 10 and 11. Split tunneling and kill switch are both present under the settings menu. Streaming and P2P server categories make it easy to navigate by use case.

Additional platforms include macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, and select router firmware. The Windows client is the primary focus of this review, tested on both Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2.

Limitations

No VPN is perfect. Here are the specific weaknesses we identified during our 2026 testing period:
